I would like to express my disappointment with the standard of officiating between SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits. I don’t like to complain about match officials, but on the day, the officiating was poor. To me, Dean Furman and Hashim Domingo both deserved red cards, but he only concentrated on one player. There was a clear goal by the Students and worst part the referee was closer to the action, while his assistant seemed to be in wonderland. All these errors, especially the disallowed goal, endorse the introduction of VAR because it will help. VAR is relevant to our football. Yes, it has its own challenges, but it will ensure some measure of fairness. Madimetja Vic Mashamaite, Renstown When Pitso Mosimane was on top of the log standings a few weeks back and with games in hand, he said nobody would topple him. Fast-forward to the loss against SuperSport United, instead of accepting the loss, he now blamed the PSL over their dragging case and claimed he cannot fight not knowing how many points they have. It was just an excuse as we all know they must just win all their games and hope for the best. Amos Tshukudu, Ga Maria The race is on for the PSL title. Who is going to win it? The top three teams are looking at the trophy daringly and I wish them all the best. At Naturena, I think we made a big mistake by not renewing Hendrick Ekstein’s contract. We lost two and drew three in our last five. Where are we going? Absolutely nowhere as we struggle to collect 40 points. Isaac Tsenene, PE Justice delayed is justice denied. The PSL Dispute Resolution case against Mamelodi Sundowns should have been resolved timeously. This delay is disadvantaging the club, as deducting points after the league has been completed is going to be unfair. It looks like the DRC is afraid to communicate the sanction to the Chloorkop-based side. Xolani Ngwekazi, Worcester, Western Cape The Absa Premiership games are coming thick and fast and are very interesting to watch. But why are our teams playing like this only now? Why don’t they show the same seriousness when the league starts? Every game you watch now, the clubs are showing eagerness that we would love to see happening from the beginning. Last but not least, watching the game between Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United last Saturday evening, where the officials disallowed a legitimate goal for Wits and gave Dean Furman a red card, I thought to myself now we need VAR in the PSL because both decisions were wrong. Yes, they are also human and are bound to make those kinds of mistakes, hence I believe they need to be assisted by bringing the Video Assistant Referee on board. Albert Khutshwa, Samora Machel I’m so disappointed with Kaizer Chiefs for the treatment meted out to Pule Ekstein. I thought the club run their affairs professionally, but I was left eating humble pie. After Ekstein produced a Man of the Match performance against Cape Town City, coach Ernst Middendorp was full of praise and even wanted to build his team around him. The next moment, the player was told to train with the reserve team and then he was recalled to the first team against Golden Arrows. Not long after that, his contract was terminated. I have never heard anything of him going AWOL or missing a training session. His sin was asking for a better salary. Instead, he got a dismissal order. I think it’s time that the Players Union enter the fray to protect our players against greedy soccer bosses. PSL players are being abused and no one is saying anything. When a player signs a pre-contract, it is like signing a death warrant. Where is Rodney Ramagalela? Almost forgotten on the local scene. If the PSL wants to be the best-run soccer body, then I think it’s time major decisions are taken. Players’ transfer fees and their salaries must be forced to be made transparent by teams, like those in Europe. Soccer bosses must be reminded that gone are the days where players played for the badges and without contracts. Our soccer stars are in fear. Even with their interviews, you can tell.
