Parker to sign two-year Chiefs deal

-

Kaizer Chiefs are in the process of tying up a number of contracts as they plan for the future, with Bernard Parker at the top of that list, as he appears to be close to finalising his new deal.

The Siya crew reported earlier in the month that Chiefs were due to meet up with Parker’s representatives during their trip to face Golden Arrows in Durban and it would seem that talks went well. It seems that the parties involved are now close to finalising a new deal for the 33-year-old.

Parker has been at Naturena for almost a decade, following his return to South Africa back in 2011, and he continues to play a major role for the Glamour Boys despite the fact that he will be turning 34 soon. As a senior player at the club, this season he has featured in 16 Absa Premiership games under Ernst Middendorp as the club climbed to the top of the table.

Now it has been revealed that the former FC Twente man is in the process of finalising a new one-year deal with a one-year option, a contract that will see him reach a milestone of a decade with the club.

Speaking to the crew, Makaab said this week, “Yes, there’s been progress… We’re currently in negotiations with Kaizer Chiefs regarding a new one-year deal with a one-year option for Bernard, and we’re very close to getting things finalised.”

Parker has played 24+ league games in all of the last eight campaigns for Amakhosi, under various head coaches, and will be looking to do so again this season - under Middendorp - as the club looks to end their lengthy trophy drought with a league title.
