WITS IN TALKS OVER NEW RITCHIE DEAL
Bidvest Wits have revealed that they are in talks with defender Keegan Ritchie over a possible new deal, with his current contract fast approaching its end.
Ritchie will see his existing contract with the Clever Boys expire at the end of the current season, meaning that he could potentially engage in talks with any potential suitors.
The 29-year-old fullback has been with Gavin Hunt’s side for almost two years now, following his move from SuperSport United back in 2018. He has, however, not been a regular is his preferred left back position. With the Alberton-born star playing second fiddle to Bafana Bafana international Sifiso Hlanti in that position, Hunt has played Ritchie in the middle of the park at times.
When called upon, Ritchie has made the most of his first team action and picked up some valuable experience with Wits’ CAF Confederation Cup participation this year.
Now, with Ritchie’s contract set to expire, the club’s Chief Operations Officer, Jonathan Schloss, has shed light on the player’s contract situation with the club.
“Keagan’s situation is different. He is out of contract at the end of the season and does not have an option beyond. However, we have been engaging with his representatives.” Schloss said.
At this point in time, it remains to be seen whether both parties will agree on a new contract for the former Kaizer Chiefs man – or whether he will be parting ways with the club at the end of the 2019/20 season.
