Agent confirms Pirates’ long-term Motshwari plan

Ben Motshwari’s representative has confirmed that there are no concerns over the player’s future at Orlando Pirates, despite the midfielder facing a minor challenge.

As announced by Pirates in an official club statement two weeks ago, the top midfielder tested positive for COVID-19,, and as confirmed by the club, the Randfontein-born player had already been isolated at home.

While the latest medical results of the 29-year-old are yet to be made public, his agent Palesa Mkhize told the Siya crew that there are no concerns regarding his future with the Soweto giants.

Motshwari signed a three- year contract when he joined Bucs from Bidvest Wits in 2018 and the central midfielder has expressed a rich vein of form and been an integral part of coach Josef Zinnbauer’s squad this season, prior to the PSL break.

On the back of an impressive campaign, Pirates are expected to exercise Motshwari’s option once his current deal expires next year, with the player’s representative indicating that the Coronavirus will have n no bearing on his future.

“Ben has a long-term contract with the club. There has been no need for any negotiations with the

club, because he has a long-term contract. You must remember that he signed a three-year contract, so he’s got another season to go,” Mkhize told the Siya crew.

“Also, he’s got an option, so it’s (the deal) not going to end soon. He’s an asset to the club as he has been playing well. He’s going nowhere, he is a Pirates player,” Mkhize confirmed.

Motshwari has 16 starts to his name in the Absa Premiership this campaign and has managed to shake off the injury that disrupted his progress when the league was suspended.
