Agent reveals latest on Musona

-

A decision on Knowledge Musona’s future at Anderlecht is expected to be imminent and, while the door is open for the player to return to Mzansi, according to his representative, there have not been any official offers as yet.

The 29- year- old Zimbabwe international spent the season on loan with KAS Eupen in search of regular game-time; however, his stint had to be cut short as the Belgium Pro League was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While speculation that he could be leaving Anderlecht has been rife, Musona’s contract with the club runs until June of 2022, and it will be up to the Belgium giants to dictate his immediate future.

However, back in Mzansi, both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have been linked to the player in the past, and they will be keeping a close eye on his situation in Europe.

The player’s representative, Mike Makaab, recently revealed that they are keeping the door open for the player to return to South Africa, despite his first option being to remain in Europe.

The Siya crew followed up with the top agent, and while he indicated that there have been no official talks with either Chiefs or Sundowns, he did admit that Musona has been on Downs’ radar for some time.

“No,” Makaab said. “He’s been on Sundowns’ radar for a long time, but until such time as we get an understanding as to what Anderlecht are going to require for him to leave, it is difficult for us to really be serious about approaching any teams. But we are on it – we are hoping over the next couple of weeks that there’s some sort of clarity from the club.”

“His first option is to stay in Europe, there’s no doubt about that. He is 29 years old. People are saying he is old, but he is in the prime of his career. He did very well with Eupen at the end of the season. In seven games, he had two goals and a number of assists, he helped the club climb away from the bottom of the log, so he has done really well,” Makaab concluded.

international has still got a bright future at Bucs, despite the reports linking him with an exit.

“Bongani is young and he came out of doing very well at Highlands Park, where they were fighting for promotion in the First Division, and was on loan from Celtic. Then, he went back to Celtic and he had a very, very, good season at Celtic after playing almost 30 games. I would say at one of the bigger clubs in South Africa, in Orlando Pirates, it’s always going to be difficult,” said Dicks.

“Before he went to Pirates, I told him, ‘Listen, you’re going to a big team and you need to understand that you are going to have to fight for your place and work hard for that.’ He understood that and it’s a step that he wanted to take,” he said.

“The boy’s got the ability and he needs to fight for his place and I’m sure under the new coach, he needs to impress. He’s got Innocent Maela that he is fighting with, who’s a national team left back, so he needs to work hard and fight for his place,” Dicks added.
