Door still open for Pieterse’s Chiefs return

-

Reyaad Pieterse could be leaving Mamelodi Sundowns during the upcoming transfer window, with the goalkeeper eager to find game-time elsewhere.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, the keeper’s representatives confirmed that they will be pushing for either a loan move or a permanent transfer away from the Brazilians, a career decision he is willing to make instead of waiting in the stands.

Pieterse was heavily linked with a return to his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, last year, although at the time the Soweto giants’ probability of landing his services were not high due to Sundowns’ asking price for the player.

However, with Pieterse now adamant on a move away from the Chloorkop- based club, Chiefs could look to revisit their interest in the player, but could only do so if they are successful in getting their transfer ban imposed by FIFA overturned.

Amakhosi are in the process of appealing their two-window transfer ban and, despite the COVID-19 pandemic forcing a delay on any in-person hearings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the Naturena-based outfit are still looking at ways to beef up their squad in all positions for next season in the hope that the ban is overturned.

According to Pieterse’s representative, r Sean Roberts, the player’s camp will leave the door open for a potential return to Chiefs, should they reignite their interest.

“If Kaizer Chiefs are still keen on Reyaad, like all interested suitors, they will have to table an offer to Sundowns. We will consider all options for him, especially where he will be playing regular football,” he said.

Pieterse has one more year left on his contract with Sundowns. However, according to the information made available to the Siya crew, the Brazilians have an added two-year option set in place on his existing deal.
