Pirates enquire into Monare

-

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Orlando Pirates have made enquiries into the availability of Thabang Monare amidst the sale of Bidvest Wits.

The 2016/17 Absa Premiership champions are on the verge of selling their topflight status and, as a result, several of their key players could be sold, with Mamelodi Sundowns already set to make a big swoop for Deon Hotto, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Haashim Domingo in a deal worth R17 million.

However, more top players at the club are also being heavily linked with transfers. Siya sources have since revealed that Pirates have made contact with Wits for the services of Monare, who is one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the country.

Although, it appears that there could be a race for the player’s signature, with sources revealing that SuperSport United are still showing an interest in the 30-year-old, while there is also talk of Monare being included in the bulk deal between Wits and Sundowns.

Monare has been linked with a move to the Brazilians in the past, where at the time Kaizer Chiefs were also showing keen interest in the player.

According to Siya sources, Pirates have identified Monare as a target as coach Josef Zinnbauer looks to reinforce his squad with depth and quality. It is believed that talks have not officially started, and for now there has only been enquiries.

The Siya crew recently reported that Wits and Monare have agreed to a new two-year deal in principle, although The Students have still not officially announced his contract extension.
