Baxter linked to India, Chiefs still an option

-

Stuart Baxter is believed to be still on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar – however, according to Siya sources, the head coach may be considering a shortterm deal elsewhere in the meantime.

The Siya crew reported in April this year that Baxter is being eyed up as one of the options to replace Ernst Middendorp, should the German mentor exit Naturena at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Chiefs are expected to make a big call on the future of their head coach and, as things stand, there is a 50/50 chance that Middendorp will not be at the club next season.

As a result, indications are that Amakhosi have been assessing their options, including bringing Baxter back to Naturena for a second stint.

However, while Baxter confirmed that he’s not fully closed the door on a return to Mzansi, the former Bafana Bafana head coach could be set for one more stint abroad before assessing his options in South Africa.

According to Siya sources, Indian Super League outfit, Odisha FC, is showing keen interest in the 66-year-old and, as things stand, Baxter could look to agree a shortterm deal in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the sources added that a move to Chiefs remains an option for the Englishman and, with the 2019/20 season yet to be completed, there could still be enough time for Baxter to take up a coaching stint elsewhere.

Baxter is expected to make a decision about his next move in the coming days, with indications that a club in India is one of the favourites to land his signature.
