Downs in talks for Shalulile

-

Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to complete several new signings in the coming weeks and Siya sources have indicated that they have shown an interest in a striker from Highlands Park.

As reported last week by the Siya crew, Sundowns are believed to have tabled a R17 million bid for the BBidvest Wits trio of Thulani Hlatshwayo, Deon Hotto and Haashim Domingo, with The Clever Boys on the verge of selling their top-flight status.

While the Chloorkop-based outfit look to raid Wits for some of their top players, a source close to the dealings has revealed to the Siya crew that Sundowns are also showing keen interest in landing Peter Shalulile’s signature.

The Lions of the North’s co-director, Larry Brookstone, recently indicated that his valuation of the player is R30 million and that no club in South Africa will be able to afford the Namibian international.

Siya sources, however, have revealed that there have been talks taking place between Sundowns and Highlands behind the scenes!

It has been suggested that a R30m asking price is too steep for the South African market, especially given the current circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though Sundowns have not been shy to spend big in order to strengthen en their squad and it remains to be seen just how far talks between the two parties will progress in the coming weeks.

The R30 million valuation will be seen as a starting point in negotiations with a potential suitor, though do not expect the player to be sold for that price. It could be the club looking to strategically position themselves for tough negotiations, and if the player is sold, expect the price tag to be on either side of the R10 million figure.

Shalulile joined Highlands from Namibian outfit Tura Magic FC, back in 2015, and has since established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in South Africa’s topflight.

The 26-year-old currently has a long-term contract with the Tembisa-based side, set to run until June of 2023, which means that Downs or any other suitors will need to buy him out of his deal if they are to secure him.
