Thulani Hlatshwayo, Sifiso Hlanti and Gift Motupa are amongst a number of high-profile superstars that could be exiting Bidvest Wits at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, with negotiatio­ns behind the scenes escalating at a frantic pace. The Siya crew has been informed that The Students have already agreed with Mamelodi Sundowns on the sale of three players for around R17 million, though the players are yet to agree… The sale of Wits’ Premier Soccer League status is still subject to approval by the League’s executive committee, but that hasn’t stopped talk in the football fraternity that the club could sell half their squad! Siya sources have painted a picture of uncertaint­y in the Wits camp following the breaking news that the team’s topflight status could be sold to businessma­n and former owner of TTM, Masala Mulaudzi. He has since claimed to have paid a R20 million non-refundable fee to a club in the Premiershi­p for next season. The news has been denied by both Wits COO Jonathan Schloss and chairman Alan Fainman, referred to as just “speculatio­n”, but insiders have stated that almost everyone at the club – including the players – is nervous about their uncertain futures. A legal expert with authority in sports law has further warned that should the mooted sale go through and players are asked to relocate to a new city, Wits could be in breach of the original terms of the contracts!
