Soccer Laduma

Ha, ha, ha. It wasn’t a bad day after all.

Hola, ‘Neymar’. What have you got for our readers from your bag of funny stories?

Okay, let me start with a story from when I was still playing for TTM (Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) FC, the season before I left. We came across a problem with the bus to the stadium. So, our bus broke down and then we had to use (Toyota) Quantum taxis to the stadium. We were playing Real Kings in Durban. On matchday, on our way to the stadium, that’s when the bus broke down. We were worried that we wouldn’t make it to the stadium on time to play the game. When we arrived at the stadium, the security guards did not want to open because they were asking themselves which team in the NFD would arrive in taxis, ha, ha, ha. They locked the gate. That’s one of the funniest stories I came across.

Ha, ha, ha. But weren’t you dressed in your team tracksuits for the security guards to identify you?

Yes, we were. But obviously when they see a taxi, they assume it’s supporters. At the time when we arrived, they had not opened the gates for supporters, so they thought it was supporters trying to get in. We had to show them our soccer boots to prove that we were indeed footballers, ha, ha, ha. As players, we were just laughing that people were not taking us seriously. If I am not mistaken, that game was on TV. We won 2-1.

No, it wasn’t, ha, ha. was about to start, we needed to get an off day to go do our rituals because there are some players who believe in traditional things. So, he was saying that some of them needed to go and see their traditional doctors. It was just a joke, but coach Alex was convinced to give us an off day because of that, ha, ha, ha.

Yes. Some teams strongly believe in muti and you have to follow the procedure. When they say you have to do something, then you have to do it. In one of the teams that I played for, they used to give us Chappies (bubblegum). They

Sometimes, at half-time, they would give you powder and when you get to the opponents’ posts, (you had to) just throw it in there.
