Chelsea’s latest signing, Kai Havertz, also became the club’s joint most expensive transfer in its history. The 21-year-old, who is one of the brightest talents of his generation, joined the Blues on Friday for a reported fee of €80 million, plus another €20 million in performanc­e-based add-ons. Havertz came through Bayer Leverkusen’s academy and became his side’s youngest-ever Bundesliga player when he made his debut in 2016, aged 17 years and 126 days (the record has since been broken by Florian Wirtz). He has since broken many records, including one for the youngest player to reach 100 Bundesliga appearance­s, which he achieved in the 2019/20 campaign. Overall, he has scored 46 goals and assisted another 31 strikes in 150 appearance­s for Leverkusen before wanting to take the next step in his career and play for a bigger club.

Similar to Havertz, Werner joined Chelsea from the Bundesliga.
