Pirates add Skelem to their wish-list!

-

Orlando Pirates could sign a second player from Stellenbosch FC in under 12 months, with indications that Leletu Skelem has made it onto the Soweto giants’ wish-list. This after the club signed his former teammate Nkanyiso Zungu in January.

Skelem has been in superb form of late, having started and starred in all of Stellenbosch’s matches following the restart and conclusion of the league in the bio-bubble.

Skelem and Zungu - prior to his switch to Orlando - were singled out by the team’s head coach Steve Barker as the players to look out for, even though the team had been struggling at the time, following their promotion from the NFD.

Barker, who gave Andile Jali an opportunity as a youngster at the University of Pretoria before the midfield strongman went on to become a household name in Mzansi with Pirates and Bafana Bafana, was brave enough to say that he would continue giving Zungu and Skelem game-time. He believed that they were stars for the future, while he also predicted that the young duo would be amongst the best players in the league in just one year.

Looking forward, Zungu could be reunited with his former teammate, with sources indicating that Bucs have shown an interest in his services.

“Pirates are interested in Leletu Skelem, as they have been following him, and are impressed with what they have seen,” a source told the Siya crew.

Skelem, 22, who plays mainly as a winger, has scored crucial goals against Cape Town City, Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC respectively, which all earned Stellies vital points as the team climbed up the log to finish in a respectable position in their first season in the topflight.

The club ended the campaign in 10th position on the Absa Premiership log.
