MARITZBURG TO MAKE FURTHER DECISION ON BUCHANAN

-

Maritzburg United are expected to hold talks regarding the long-term future of Keagan Buchanan.

The 28-year-old joined the Team of Choice back in 2018, after he received his clearance from Kaizer Chiefs and with whom he spent two seasons with, making just 10 domestic appearances for the Soweto giants.

At the time, he put pen to paper on a three-year deal, which has now been confirmed as a two-year contract plus an option to extend by another year.

The club has since taken up the added one-year option, securing his future at the KwaZulu Natal-based outfit for another season. However, according to Siya sources, management will meet this week to make some crucial decisions regarding some of their players, including Buchanan.

The source indicated that Maritzburg are not yet sure if they will be offering the midfielder an extended contract beyond June 2021. Should they opt against doing so, he will be able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere in January.

Buchanan has established himself as a key figure in the Team of Choice set-up this season, making 26 domestic appearances and securing a regular spot in the starting line-up.

However, in Maritzburg’s last four league encounters in the bio-bubble, Eric Tinkler dropped the player to the bench and, against Orlando Pirates, he was an unused substitute.

Now, with the club looking to prepare their squad for the new 2020/21 season, it remains to be seen whether Buchanan will land himself a long-term deal.

In other news at the club, the source indicated that a decision about whether or not Miguel Timm will continue on their books for the new season will also be made in the coming days.
