Jampies to be offered to Chiefs?

-

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Cheslyn Jampies could be offered to Kaizer Chiefs as an option for coach Gavin Hunt at left back.

Jampies, 31, made a return to the topflight with Baroka FC in September last year, following a bright season with GladAfrica outfit Uthongathi FC. Before then, the Cape Town-born star had endured a spell in the football wilderness.

Now, following a good spell with Baroka in which he has made 15 appearances, Siya sources have revealed that he could be offered to Chiefs.

Ironically, Amakhosi have been linked to the player in the past.

Following his breakout season with Jomo Cosmos in 2016, Chiefs, Orlando Pirates as well as Mamelodi Sundowns were amongst the teams trying to snap up the former Santos man. However, in the end, he landed up signing for Bloemfontein Celtic instead, after his move to the Buccaneers fell through.

According to Siya sources, Hunt is an admirer of Jampies’ ability, particularly from set-pieces, which are an integral part of how Hunt’s teams play.

The Glamour Boys currently have Philani Zulu as the club’s first-choice left back, while they also have Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Yagan Sasman on the books, although the latter have received very little game-time and with Chiefs set to overhaul their squad in the new season, all three players have been linked with an exit.

Sifiso Hlanti is set to join the Soweto giants in July, and with changes expected to take place at Naturena, Jampies could come in as cover for Hlanti at left back.

Information made available to the crew is that Jampies penned a three-year deal with Baroka that runs until 2023, which means that Chiefs would have to negotiate a transfer fee with Baroka if they are to land his services.
