Fielies’ fall-out to ignite Big Three transfer?

-

Taariq Fielies’ fall-out with Cape Town City head coach Jan Olde Riekerink, who has been placed on administrative leave by the club, could open the door to a potential transfer at the end of the season, according to Siya sources in the Mother City.

The player told the Siya crew last month that he was ready to move to one of the Gauteng clubs with the blessing of City chairman, John Comitis, and last week’s incident could force the move.

The crew revealed last week that Fielies had been banished from travelling with the rest of the squad to Nelspruit for his side’s DStv Premiership

clash away to TS Galaxy following what club insiders labelled as misconduct by the defender.

Shortly after he was substituted in City’s 5-1 drubbing by AmaZulu FC a few days earlier, Fielies is believed to have walked over to the Usuthu bench to embrace coach Benni McCarthy and his entire technical team, but allegedly snubbed his own dugout.

McCarthy initially brought Fielies to City, nearly four years ago, when he was head coach there, and the defender still has huge admiration for the ex-Bafana Bafana star.

But his actions were frowned upon by Riekerink, and the coach, as confirmed by Comitis, had a meeting with the player and subsequently banned him from travelling to Nelspruit.

Now, with Fielies being monitored by the Big Three, it remains to be seen if the recent events will trigger his move to Gauteng!

Orlando Pirates were linked to him earlier this season, while insiders have revealed that Gavin Hunt remains keen on adding him to his roster.

Both clubs, and specifically Amakhosi, are keen to beef up their squad next season and Fielies has proved to be one of the most consistent defenders in the PSL, though he does still have two years remaining on his contract with City.
