Makola edging closer to new City deal?

-

Cape Town City recently opened discussions over a new deal with midfielder Mpho Makola and the Siya crew has now established that the two parties have edged closer to concluding the contract talks.

Makola joined City in 2019 on a two-year contract, after ending a seven-year stay with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. The 34-year-old midfielder’s current deal with the Citizens, which expires in June, did not include an option to extend and City chairman John Comitis recently confirmed to the Siya crew that the two parties have been discussing a new contract for the player, who has been influential in the middle of the park.

City are keen to have the player on board beyond the current campaign and indications are that management and coach Jan Olde Riekerink are all happy to have the player get a new deal.

“I said to everybody that we will deal the matters in May. Once I have discussed with the coach, we will decide which players we will keep and which ones we won’t for next season,” Comitis said.

The Siya crew understands that Makola is one of the players that City will hold on to and a new deal will be concluded in the near future. The former Free State Stars midfielder has been a regular for City and is one of the more experienced players in the squad, playing a key role in guiding the youngsters.
