Sundowns to make Maluleka decision
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Maluleka will have an important few months ahead of him at Chloorkop.
The former Kaizer Chiefs star is in the final year of his contract with the defending DStv Premiership champions and the club is due to make a decision on what happens next in his career. The 32-year-old has an option to extend for another season in his contract and the Tshwane giants are set to make a call on whether to exercise it. It’s still early in the season and Downs have a number of matches ahead of them, especially with the CAF Champions League campaign about to begin for them after the international break. Maluleka, who is yet to make an appearance for the 11-time league champions, could get some opportunities to get game-time and convince the Brazilians’ hierarchy to exercise the option in his contract.
Competition for places in the middle of the park has been tough for the experienced campaigner, with the likes of Rivaldo Coetzee, Andile Jali, Haashim Domingo and Mothobi Mvala getting the nod ahead of him in the matchday squad. The Sundowns co-coaches, however, recently spoke about how he has shed some weight and is working hard to get into the team.
Last season, Maluleka, who has previously been linked with a loan move, made 14 appearances in all competitions for Sundowns. The last competitive game he played for the club was in June, at the tail end of last season, when he came on as a substitute against Bloemfontein Celtic.
