Chiefs’ stumbling block on Ethiopian gem
The Siya crew has learnt that Kaizer Chiefs have made enquiries into the availability of Ethiopian international Abubeker Nasir, although Amakhosi face a potential stumbling block in their pursuit of the attacker.
Last week, reports in local media started circulating about the Soweto giants’ interest in the 21-year-old attacker who put on dazzling displays against Bafana Bafana in back-to-back 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Now, the latest news making its way to the crew is that Chiefs, along with Sekhukhune United, have made enquiries into the attacker’s availability, but Siya sources in the know have informed the crew about a potential stumbling block for Amakhosi as well as his other suitors.
According to the information, the highly-rated striker’s club, Ethiopian Coffee SC, are reluctant to sell the player and have already rejected multiple advances from Egypt and other parts of Africa.
Indications are that it would take a big-money offer to turn their heads, an offer that is too good to turn down.
Nasir, who broke the all-time Ethiopian Premier League goal-scoring record with 27 goals in 22 matches, penned a five-year deal with Ethiopian
Coffee in September last year. This means that he is under contract with the club until 2025, which puts them in the driver’s seat. Any suitors will need to nego
tiate a transfer fee with the club in order to secure his signature and Siya sources have indicated that he won’t come cheap, if any suitors are able to convince the club to let him go.
It is believed that a multi-million US dollar price tag could be placed on his signature, should Ethiopian Coffee come to the table, although an exact figure has not been mentioned as yet.
