Pirates and Egyptian clubs monitor Ohizo?

-

News reaching the Siya crew is that Orlando Pirates are keeping a close eye on Chibuike Ohizu, who has made notable progress at Sekhukhune United.

The striker has netted four goals to date in this season’s DStv Premiership and is one goal behind joint-leading goal scorers Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns and Victor Letsoalo from Royal AM, who have scored five goals respectively.

According to sources, Ohizu has impressed clubs both locally and abroad, and indications are that Babina Noko could be formally approached for his services at the end of the season.

The source explained to the crew that the 25-year-old is being monitored by Bucs and clubs in Egypt, although he is said to be in no rush to make a move as his focus is on helping Sekhukhune in their first season in the topflight and on receiving a call-up to the Nigerian senior national team.

“Chibuike Ohizu has done extremely well so far, and he has scored four goals in six matches. There are clubs that are enquiring about him, and his handlers have received offers from as far as Egypt,” said a source.

“But the boy is fully focused on his club, Sekhukhune United. The clubs that have made enquiries have been told that the player’s aim is to help Sekhukhune to possibly finish in the Top Eight this season.

“This is a player who scored two goals in his first match for Sekhukhune while they were still in the GladAfrica Championship, but unfortunately he got injured and was out for the rest of the season. But the club believed in him and retained him. They extended his contract and he is now getting a chance to showcase his talent in the topflight.

“He is a very good player and Pirates is one of the clubs here locally that are monitoring him. Egyptians are also looking at him, even though it is not your Al Ahly or Zamalek, but there is interest from that country,” the source concluded.

Having signed Nigerian defender Oliseh Ndah during the off-season, Bucs are said to be considering bringing his countryman on board for next season.

Ohizu signed a one-year contract extension at the end of last season, although Sekhukhune do have an option to extend it by another one year.
