Chiefs in talks to sign Spurs teenager

-

Kaizer Chiefs could make their second signing in the coming weeks if talks, which have now been officially entered into, over the transfer of Rushwin Dortley are successful.

The Siya crew reported recently that the young Cape Town Spurs defender had emerged as a target for the Glamour Boys and that the Soweto giants were in fact leading the race to secure his services while their rivals monitored the situation closely.

Dortley, 19, is not only a dynamic left-footed centre-back, but a huge prospect and can also play as a fullback if needed.

Indications are that he fits the criteria of what sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr recently spoke about, as he aims to reduce the average age of the current crop of Amakhosi players under the mentorship of coach Stuart Baxter.

According to sources in Cape Town, the player has been under Chiefs’ radar for some time now and it is understood Amakhosi have now approached Spurs with the intention to seal the deal and win the race for his signature.

If concluded and an agreement is reached in principle, then Dortley would become Chiefs’ second signing in just a matter of months fol- lowing the imminent arrival of Siyethemba Sithebe from AmaZulu on a pre-contract.

Chiefs were busy during the July/August transfer window, coming out of the FIFA ban from registering players to beef up the squad with nine new signings, and seem to be continuing with their reinforcements!

Although Motaung accepted criticism from club supporters for their failure to add to that list in January, he strongly suggested that the Glamour Boys will continue to look for the best young talent going into the 2022/23 season.
