Margeman close to joining SuperSport

-

Grant Margeman is close to making another move in Gauteng, this time to join SuperSport United in July.

Soccer Laduma reported recently that the midfielder had become a serious target for Matsatsantsa, who initially wanted him to make the transfer in January. But at the time, his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns, did not want to breach the terms of their agreement with Swallows FC, where he is spending this season on loan.

Margeman made the big step up in his career at the start of the 2020/21 season and was hoping to cement his place under co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena at Chloorkop, despite being recruited by Pitso Mosimane.

But with ‘Jingles’ leaving and being appointed as the Al Ahly coach prior to the player arriving, there was always doubt whether he would fit in with a different technical team set-up.

The fact that Margeman only made three appearances was perhaps evidence enough that he was not part of the new technical team’s long-term plan, hence the loan move to Swallows, with the idea that he could join them permanently if the stint proved successful.

Siya sources have informed the crew that the 23-year-old’s representatives have been in discussions with Sundowns to secure him a more stable home and that looks likely to be SuperSport.

Kaitano Tembo’s side have a good relationship with Downs as evidenced by the transfer of several players between the two clubs over the years, with Teboho Mokoena the most recent move for a whopping R16 million.

A final decision will be made at the end of the season, but indications are that SuperSport have made headway as talks are at an advanced stage to sign Margeman.
