Sundowns monitoring teen star
The famed Bayhill Premier Cup returned over the Easter weekend and has again lived up to expectation by bringing emerging young talent to the fore, with one teenage sensation believed to have caught Mamelodi Sundowns’ attention.
Faiz Abraham, 17, impressed for eventual winners Cape Town Spurs and is understood to be on Downs’ radar, although the tournament was watched by agents as well as top scouts from all over the country.
Soccer Laduma understands that there will be no rush to take any decision on the winger’s future given that he has done well in the development structure and was recently allowed to train with the senior side currently campaigning in the GladAfrica Championship.
According to some of the agents and scouts who were at the Bayhill Premier Cup and watched Abrahams help Spurs to the title, there was a lot of talk about the wide player and his situation at the Mother City outfit.
Downs are known to have a brilliant youth structure and with the arrival of sporting director Flemming Berg, it is expected to improve a lot more considering his experience working with the Danish FA and as Chelsea’s international scout previously.
But the reigning DStv Premiership champions aren’t the only club eyeing Abrahams following his stellar showing, although all parties keen on the player will have to discuss any interest with Spurs.
It’s clear that the club sees a long-term future for him having recently allowed him to train with the senior team and subsequently handed him a professional contract, even though most of the player’s minutes have come in the ABC Motsepe League.
