SUPERSPORT TO REWARD BHASERA WITH NEW DEAL

-

The Siya crew has been reliably informed that SuperSport United are set to reward long-serving defender Onismor Bhasera with a new one-year-deal.

Since joining Matsatsantsa from Wits in 2016, the Mutare-born defender has established himself as one of team’s stalwarts and a key cog in the line-up.

Despite the club parting ways with the old guard like Thuso Phala, Morgan Gould and Clayton Daniels in recent times, Bhasera, who is currently the oldest player in the SuperSport squad, has continued to prove his value both on and off the field.

The club have, for the last few seasons, taken a cautious approach by handing Bhasera one-year contracts dating back to 2018, a similar situation to that of Orlando Pirates captain, Happy Jele.

The Zimbabwean’s latest contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the current season.

However, the latest news reaching the crew’s desk is that the defender is set to be rewarded for his loyalty

with yet another one-year-deal that will see him remain with the club until the 2022/23 season.

According to sources, Bhasera’s 27 appearances in all competitions this season have convinced the club that he has shown no signs of slowing down despite his 37th birthday fast approaching.

SuperSport have started looking for a long-term replacement for the former Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Plymouth Argyle and Wits man and have grabbed Sifiso Ngobeni on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, with the club looking to make that move a permanent one.

Having featured in the secondmost matches behind captain Ronwen Williams this campaign, the Zimbabwe international continues to prove his worth to SuperSport’s cause.
