Du Preez & Kwinika insight

-

Kaizer Chiefs had to fork out in the region of R13 million to secure the services of Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika from Stellenbosch FC. This goes to show just how valued the duo was at the Cape Winelands outfit and a lot will now be expected of them now that they have crossed over to Gauteng. We asked Stellenbosch FC assistant coach Wesley Sergel to provide some insight on the two players…

“Ashley developed into one of the deadliest forwards in the PSL last season, finishing on nine non-penalty goals. He has the ability to play in both wide and central forward positions depending on the opposition’s tactics. His movement off the ball and electric speed make him a very difficult player to defend (against) in open play and especially off transition moments. His off-the-ball work ethic makes him a continuous nightmare for opposition defenders when they are in possession. He is a local product developed by the club and we are all so excited to watch him continue to represent the Winelands area at his new team. As for Zitha, he joined the club two seasons ago from Bidvest Wits, where he played mostly as a right fullback. With his move back into centre (of) defence, we saw the best of him. A player who is super com

fortable on the ball, who allowed

us to build up consistently with confidence and to initiate our attacks from deep. His one-vone tackles percentage was one of the highest in the league, allowing us to press higher up the field. He grew into a team leader in his final season, playing a key role in the club’s top four finish last season, being named Club and Player’s Player of the Year. A fantastic person on and off the field, we wish him all the best of successes in his new challenge.”
