‘Nyaope’ Mahlatsi to give fans a high

-

At the age of 23, the Naturenabased side will already be a fifth club for the sublimely talented Kamohelo Mahlatsi. Having come through at SuperSport United in the Engen Knockout tournament, he played for Ubuntu Cape Town and AmaTuks (both on loan) and then for Swallows when Matsatsantsa sold him. Despite making his debut in 2018 for SuperSport, he still sits on just 1 660 minutes in the topflight, amounting to fewer than 19 “90 minutes” worth of action. If we also consider his diminutive frame, he could still be described as quite a raw talent. He featured in 23 league matches for Swallows last season, starting 20 times. His record of just one goal scored and one assist definitely needs some work if he is to make a real impact at Chiefs. His best position is a difficult one to pin down. He has played plenty as a right winger who can take players on with one-v-one actions. However, he was mostly used as a central attacking midfielder last season – as something in-between a “free eight” and a number 10. He also had a couple of outings as a false nine. Without doubt, this is a signing with a very big upside if Mahlatsi fulfils

his potential. It may take a while for him to get regular starts and he certainly needs to bulk up and make himself more durable in duels. Like Matlou and Sithebe, he would be suitable playing in a 4-3-3 as one of the two ‘eights’. Arthur Zwane must be looking at his signings and be considering using that shape to bring out the best in them.
