AGENT CONFIRMS MATOMBO DEAL

-

As part of the plan to revive his career, Chris Matombo has signed with JDR Stars, who will be aiming for another push for promotion to the topflight in the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Matombo finished the previous campaign with Venda Football Academy in the second tier. The 28-year-old midfielder previously played for Kaizer Chiefs, having come through the club’s development in 2014, while he also plied trade in Malta in the past.

“Chris Matombo, who is a former Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United player, will appear in the colours of JDR Stars in the new season. It didn’t take him long to get a club after leaving Venda Football Academy and he is excited about the latest development in his career,” said a source.

Contacted for comment, the player’s representative, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi from Rush Hour Sports Management, confirmed the move for the Thohoyandou-born player.

“It is true that Chris Matombo has signed with JDR Stars. I would have preferred you to get confirmation from the club, but yes, it is true, since you are asking. The boy had an option to return to the topflight with Sekhukhune United, but we opted for JDR Stars when the club enquired about his services, because there he will have a better chance of playing regularly.

“JDR Stars is a good team that we think will suit his style and the team will be competing for promotion and we want him to be part of that,” confirmed Mulovhedzi.
