One of the most notable players to have been affected by the changing South African football landscape is Happy Jele, who parted ways with Orlando Pirates after 16 years with the club, having turned down an offer to retire for a non-playing role at the club.

Other players that were affected include Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro, who has gone back home in Colombia, retired Hlompho Kekana and Tsepo Masilela, who has also been linked with retirement, as well as the trio of Clayton Daniels, Nazeer Allie and Granwald Scott, who have joined Cape Town Spurs in the second tier.

Daniel Akpeyi is another bigname player who is currently unattached since being released from Amakhosi at the end of his contract and despite the interest in his services, the Nigerian has been affected by the changes.

Former Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has opted for a role as the ambassador at Sekhukhune United after he too was affected by his age, regarding his playing contract.

Of the abovementioned players, all are over the age of 30, which is a sign of change.
