Dion’s Pirates dream still alive?

-

Sede Junior Dion is in his second season in Mzansi and having done well to famil-iarise himself with the DStv Premiership, the player is working on his dream move to Orlando Pirates, according to sources.

Before signing with Marumo Gallants in August last year, Dion had been linked with the Buccaneers, while on the books of Jwaneng Galaxy in Botswana. However, a move did not materialise at the time.

In his first season, Dion scored six goals for Gallants and was influential in the team’s impressive Nedbank Cup campaign, which ended in the final against Mam-elodi Sundowns in May.

According to sources, the 28-yearold had an option to move abroad this season but decided to continue in the DStv Premiership for his second campaign, while hoping for improved displays and a dream move to Pirates.

“Sede Junior Dion’s representatives had hoped for a move to Pirates for the player and when that didn’t happen due to the player not playing competitive football for long when the season in Botswana was suspended (due to COVID), they were still happy for the Marumo move to get him to the PSL.

“The player has done well to adjust to the league and is aiming for a better season to revive the interest from Pirates,” said a source.

“There was an option for him to leave for abroad, but it was decided that he should continue at Marumo. Pirates will be one of the options considered for the player’s next move,” added the source.

Dion came close to handing Gallants their first win of the season against Royal AM last Sunday had it not been for Ricardo Nascimento’s stoppage-time equaliser.
