Downs to join Chiefs in Mashego race?

-

Soccer Laduma has been informed that Mamelodi Sundowns are monitoring defender Terrence Mashego’s situation at Cape Town City with keen interest as they too may consider joining the race for his services.

Mashego is currently recovering from surgery and hasn’t featured at all for the Citizens since the start of the 2022/23 campaign. However, that has not kept him from being linked with the Premier Soccer League’s big guns.

The Siya crew reported recently that Kaizer Chiefs had enquired about the Bafana Bafana left back before eventually signing his former teammate Edmilson Dove, though indications are that the Glamour Boys are still keen on the player.

City did trigger the two-year option on Mashego’s contract in the off-season and he is now on their books until June 2024, according to information provided by Siya sources privy to the details between the two parties.

And the latest reaching the Soccer Laduma desk is that Mamelodi Sundowns are sniffing around and asking questions about the player’s future, having got word that City would be open to parting ways with Mashego if all involved are satisfied with what is being put on the table.

Mashego joined the Mother City outfit almost exactly two years ago, from TS Galaxy, with Ebrahim Seedat going in the opposite direction at the time.

It’s proved to be a step up in the player’s career following his Bafana call-up, and now both Chiefs and Sundowns have taken notice.

Indications are that should Downs enter the race, as expected, this is likely then to be a tussle between the two clubs and could come down to which club is willing to pay more for the 24-year-old star.
