Akpeyi offered to Swallows?
Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who has been unattached since leaving Naturena at the end of last season, has been offered to Swallows FC.
Although no decision has been made on signing him just yet, sources have con-firmed to the Siya crew that the veteran Super Eagles shot-stopper has been of-fered to the Dube Birds, who could be keen on strengthening their goalkeeping de-partment after conceding some disappointing goals so far this season.
Following their unimpressive campaign last season as the team fought against rel-egation for a large part, only to salvage their PSL status through the relega-tion/promotion
play-offs, the club aims to improve this time around, with a new goalkeeper likely to be added to the squad, according to sources.
Prior to Tuesday night’s fixture against Sekhukhune United, Swallows threw away a 2-1 lead against AmaZulu FC last Friday, where they went on to lose 3-2 at Dob-sonville Stadium with some goalkeeping mistakes made by Thakasani Mbanjwa, the team’s number one this season.
With experienced goalkeeper Thela Thela having taken a role to double up as the club’s goalkeeper coach, as reported by the crew, Dylan Kerr’s team would wel-come another addition in the goalkeeping department as both Mbanjwa and re-serve keeper Sanele Tshabalala are relatively inexperienced at the highest level.
“Swallows have been offered the services of veteran goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi,” confirmed a source. “It is still early, though, to tell if the
club will sign him, but it’s something that has been discussed as the club is considering strengthening in that
department,” the source added.
