Expert’s insight: What should be done with the rules?

-

According to the industry expert who specializes in sponsorships, the PSL need to relook at the rules with regards to sponsorship.

“I think the PSL needs to change its rules around sponsorship and this facade of exclusive sponsorship needs to go away because everybody can see the conflict of interests already.

“I think the PSL need to come up with better contracts that allow for during specific games, or competitions under a specific sponsor, teams will not be allowed to have the logo of their clashing sponsor on the front of their jerseys but then allow other sponsors throughout the season, so that teams can generate revenue because at the end of the day, you can hackle about sponsors all you want, but the PSL needs teams to be financially viable and sustainable – and if these teams aren’t able to attract sponsors, they’re all going to die at some point.

“If the League relaxes these rules, it will benefit the league, it will improve competition and allow a level playing field where all teams will be vying for the best players and I think it will make the league more exciting and, more importantly, more financially viable.”
