GLAMOUR BOYS EDGE NATALRICHBOYS

-

The Phefeni Glamour Boys showed resilience after playing for about 60 minutes with one man down. We created good opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalise. It was a much-needed win after the hammering by Downs. The boys had to come back. I was unhappy with some supporters booing Ngezana. Yes, he cost us in the previous game, but must we hang him out to dry? Africa’s number one keeper Mendy also cost Chelsea big time when they were walloped by Leeds. Zwane introduced Ngezana to protect our lead and in anticipation of high balls from Richards Bay FC. Petersen must stop trying to play sweeper like Itu, as he’s not timing his movements. Clever opponents will expose him. Amos “Tiger” Tshukudu, Ga-Maria

It was about time the Natal Rich Boys got a rude awakening. They were getting too comfortable. But they’ve put themselves in a good position to survive the chop because the earlier you collect points, the better. It’s about time Chiefs collect points from outfits regarded as small teams. We don’t want a Baroka situation whereby small teams become our hoodoo sides. However, we lack a spine. I’m satisfied with ball retention and we can get better, but we lack discipline and leadership. Last season, our defence took turns with schoolboy errors and it has carried over to the new season, with Ngezana against Sundowns and Petersen almost gifting Richards Bay a goal. I still believe we need Khune and a Nengomasha type of player to keep things tight in the middle. Or at least play a system that will allow Blom to play in defensive midfield. Booing of players is disgusting, please stop it. Thank you for a difficult win, Khosi. Lucky Khunou, Meriting

The overall performance was on point, except for a few blunders here and there, the first one being the constant fielding of Ngezana and the omission of Khune. Mashiane should have been used ahead of erratic Ngezana. What Zwane sees in him baffles me. He needs to know that he’s throwing this boy into the lion’s den, as the fans are back in numbers and they’ll be on his case. In Maart’s absence, Mashiane should be the preferred replacement, but I bet you Zwane will recall Nange instead. Lastly, it’s a great insult to Khune for Zwane to field the other keepers ahead of him. What does he have to do to prove he’s still the best? Big up to the technical team for starting with our match winner, Sekgota. Hofmeyr Kwitshana, via email

In a difficult situation, and to continue getting points, one will have to apply ‘dirty’ tactics to get goals. It simply means that you stop pleasing your supporters by playing attractive football and focus on getting a good result. This is what Zwane did on Saturday. Compliments to Chiefs. Ofentse Kakapa Mahatlhe, Schweizer-Reneke

Solomons is a good penalty taker. That’s what we were told when the team signed him. The penalty saved by Williams was the second that Chiefs have failed to convert against Sundowns in two games in succession. I also think that Sekgota can do much better than Billiat and Dolly. In upcoming games, if we happen to be awarded a penalty, please give it to Solomons, Du Preez or Sekgota. I’ve seen Sekgota take one against Pirates in the Carling Cup. If that’s the way he takes them, then no goalkeeper can save them. I also don’t think Du Preez can fail to convert a penalty. Neo Mahlangu, Tembisa
