Extremely important competition for us

Eric Tinkler – Cape Town City coach

“Look, we worked really hard last season to try and finish in the Top Eight bracket in order to play in this season’s MTN8 again. We managed to get to the final last season, which we unfortunately lost on penalties, and we obviously would like to take it one step further by not only making the final again, but lifting the trophy this time around. This is an extremely important competition for us as it builds the morale and confidence of the team going forward. We are looking forward to an extremely tough game against an AmaZulu side that’s proven to be very good. We will have to work twice as hard to win this battle and progress to the semi-finals first.”

“Look, we managed to get one over Cape Town City in the league two weeks ago at home and we are obviously making the trip to them now. It’s always tough playing them in their backyard, always. They’ve had a few difficult results, but believe me when I tell you the form book counts for little when it comes to cup games. It’s all about who wants it the most on the day. They are always quality and they dominated against us, irrespective of the result on the day. Their hunger to win this is surely high seeing that they lost out in the final last year. It’s our most important game right now and if it means we should rotate, then we will. We’ll put out our best possible team because it’s a competition we’d love to win. This is what makes this tournament exciting. We don’t only want to finish in the Top Eight bracket, but we always want to end as high as possible. We think about winning the league, we think about Champions League spaces.”
