SUPERSPORT OPT AGAINST MHLONGO

-

The Siya has learnt that SuperSport United will not be signing winger Jose Mhlongo.

Mhlongo recently training with Matsatsantsa in the hope of securing a deal for the new season, but things have not gone according to plan for the former Black Leopards player.

Mhlongo parted ways with Swallows FC when his contract came to an end in July and was given an opportunity to impress SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt, who has been looking to bolster his squad with a few more experienced players.

Contacted by the Siya crew for a comment, SuperSport CEO

Stan Matthews said, “We won’t be signing him. He was training with us.”

Mhlongo finished last season strong for Swallows in the play-offs but was a bit-part player for the side during the campaign. Most of the time, the 31-year-old was used as a substitute, as head coach Dylan Kerr preferred other players in attacking positions.

Last season, he made eight appearances in all competitions, three of which were in the end-of-season play-offs.

Mhlongo remains a free agent and,

according to information received by the crew, has prioritized a move to a DStv Premiership club, but if things don’t work out, it’s believed that the player would not mind making a move down to a Motsepe Foundation Championship side that is determined to win promotion to the topflight.
