Fielies open to Chiefs move?

-

News reaching the Siya crew’s desk is that Taariq Fielies is open to being transferred to Kaizer Chiefs.

The central defender is a key a figure of coach Eric Tinkler’s Cape Town City outfit, though according to well-placed sources, the 30-year-old would welcome a move to Gauteng.

Chiefs have had a shaky start to the 2022/23 season under the mentorship of coach Arthur Zwane, with some critics identifying Amakhosi’s central defence as a position of concern. To date, after six rounds of league action,

Zwane’s side has recorded two wins, one draw and three losses.

The most notable loss came against Mamelodi Sundowns, in a 4-0 defeat, where defensive errors cost the side on the day.

Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove have come in to bolster the team’s central defence, but according to Siya sources, the side is slim in the position. And with Erick Mathoho having been linked with a possible exit from the Soweto giants, Zwane will need cover in the role.

Fielies was a standout player in City’s 2-0 win over Chiefs in August, where he impressed at the heart of defence, and indications are that he has been identified as a possible solution for Zwane’s defensive concerns.

The central defender, however, is under contract with City, which means that Chiefs would have to pay a transfer fee if they were to make an official approach for the player.

At this point time, it is unclear if the Naturena-based side are willing to open the cheque book, having also been linked to Terrence Mashego.
