Ex-coach & former teammate react

- Sergio Dos Santos Chiefs head coach

I don’t think must

the supporters get too excited

– Former “Well, I mean, obviously, you’ve got to say that his presplayed ence a very important role in the way things were done (against Stellenbosch) and the two penalty saves were very, very good, although I have to say that I didn’t think the penalties were welltaken, but that’s not the point. The point is that he saved them, that’s the important thing. You can also say that maybe he moved a little bit ahead of time, he was off his line albut ready, that’s also not important. The important thing is he saved them and he’s put them through to the next round and obknow, viously, you although he’s getnow, ting on in age his experience and qualities were quite evident on the day. The question, of course, is can he continue in the same line, in the same vein going forward? Look, obviously, one man doesn’t make a team, as you know. The team is not quite where they ought to be. I think that it’s a rebuilding phase and obviously they’ve got quite a few young players and when you’ve got a lot of young players, the youngsters tend to not understand what it means to play for a team like Kaizer Chiefs in terms of discipline and so on. Every now and then, one of them wants to do something special for the fans instead of doing something special for the team. That will

come, but the one thing that I like, I like the way that the players are playing with a lot of freedom and certainly a little

bit more attack-minded. But I still feel that Chiefs needs a top-class centre-back, a topclass midfield player who’s going to be the general in the midfield and obviously a recognised striker, which now they’ve got in the boy from Burundi (Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana). Let’s hope that he’s going to score some goals because that’s what they’re lacking. As for Khune, listen, I’m going

to repeat again, I don’t think the supporters must get too excited about him

coming back into the team because obviously he hasn’t played for quite a long time. He needs to get 100 percent fit, which is going to take some time still, and in-between that period of

time, it’s very, very possible that he might not do as well as is expected because he’s going to be under a lot of pressure. But what we do know about him is that his record is there for everybody to know, he’s an example to any goalkeeper in South Africa, he’s played for many, many years, he knows what it’s all about and his presence will give the team a big boost. There’s no question about it. However, he’s got two capable goalkeepers in the squad who are going to challenge him, so he’s going to have to work very, very

hard to raise his fitness levels to make sure that it stays where it is.”

Everything depends on him Dominic Isaacs – Former Chiefs defender

“It was nice to see Khune coming back. As they say, class is permanent, you know. He won’t lose his talent

overnight, but he also knows that age is not on his side. He really needs to work very, very hard to keep his spot in the team because if he looks around, there’s two hungry young boys that want to claim that number one spot. So, if he continues

like this, the team is doing well, they are winning, there’s no reason for him to get out of the team, you understand? I always say if Kaizer Chiefs are creating chances, they need to score and they need to limit the mistakes at the back, the individual errors… and then they will be fine. No, for sure, Khune’s experience will rub off on others in terms of his presence as well. When things don’t go well or whatever, they look up to somebody on the field of play. Leadership is also important inside the field of play, you understand? So, he is a plus in the team. Everything depends on him and how badly he wants to be number one. And he’s been number one for almost a decade, so he just needs to reclaim his place and work hard. He should just take it one game at a time.”
