Chiefs would have been far…

Sifiso Vilakazi – Former Free State Stars striker

“Ja, it was tough playing against Kaizer Chiefs when Khune was in goals. The guy has got experience. Ukudlala (Playing) against yena (him) … he’s vocal, although sometimes in football it happens that your form drops.

I’m happy for his comeback and he showed ukuthi (that) Chiefs need him more than anything at the moment, as they are undergoing a rebuilding process. Not to take anything away from (the likes of Bruce) Bvuma and the (Brandon) Petersen guy, but if you are building a new team, you need that experience to guide the youngsters. In my opinion, had they started the season with him in the poles, Chiefs would have been far judging by how promising the team has been. He was going to guide them and his experience was going to add a lot of value. I think with this process that they are in, they must give him a chance (rather than rotate) so that he can also gain confidence and guide the young boys. If you look at certain goals they conceded when he was out, and again this is not to take anything away from the goalkeepers they’ve used, those goals would not have gone in with Khune’s experience. I’m not saying they must blame the others, but nje (just) his experience, some mistakes… like the one Siyabonga Ngezana made against Mamelodi Sundowns, I don’t think if Khune was there, it was going to be made. Yes, the way they conceded against Stellenbosch left a lot to be desired, even though those are two slightly different

scenarios, but it’s football, such happens. You see, when you have a goalkeeper like Khune, for me you’ve got another number five for you, you’ve got the organizer, the

guy that knows what it means to be a Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper. And just for the record, I have scored against Khune, ha, ha, ha. He knows also. I don’t think there’s a goalkeeper I’ve never scored against in the PSL in my days.”
