Al Ahly want to recoup Tau transfer money

-

Reports that Percy Tau has had his contract with Al Ahly terminated have so far been denied by insiders close to the player and at the club, but the Siya crew understands the striker is likely to of f ic y be put on the transfer list.

Tau joined Ahly a year ago in a move that split the South African football fraternity down the middle following his decision to accept a transfer from English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion and reunite with coach Pitso Mosimane.

But with Mosimane now gone, and suggestions that Tau is injury-prone, indications are that Ahly are eager to offload the South African.

However, the stumbling block so far – among other issues – appears to be the transfer fee and whether the club will be able to recoup the money spent to initially bring the Bafana Bafana forward to Cairo.

According to reports, Ahly paid around R30 million for his services, with Tau putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with an option to renew it for a further season, which at this stage, of course, looks unlikely.

The Siya crew has been led to gium asking questions about the striker in a country where Tau began his European experience after Brighton could not get him a work permit and had to loan him out to Royal Union to get some game-time as well as experience to adjust to life abroad.

Tau was voted Footballer of the Season in the Proximus League and moved to Club Brugge in the topflight, yet another loan move, and got to play in the UEFA Champions League against the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

He also played for Anderlecht, though only for five months, before Brighton were finally able to register him in January last year.

But that now seems like a long time ago… the player has fallen down the pecking order at Ahly and sources privy to discussions around his future have suggested Ahly will look to sell Tau in the upcoming transfer window.
