Sundowns to pay +R10m for Mashego?
The Siya crew broke the news on Monday that Mamelodi Sundowns had agreed to a deal in principle with Cape Town City for the services of Terrence Mashego.
At the time, sources indicated that the deal with the Brazilians is as good as done, with the finer details for the 24-yearold’s transfer to be ironed out.
Mashego was mysteriously left out of Cape Town City’s CAF Champions League preliminary first round encounter against Otoho d’Oyo last Saturday, with Siya sources informing the crew that the decision was taken to ensure that the player was not cup-tied before making the move to Sundowns.
Now, word reaching Soccer
Laduma is that the Brazilians are believed to have agreed to transfer fee of just over R10 million for the left back, who will add to their defensive options for the 2022/23 season if the deal is officially concluded.
He was impressive in leading coach Eric Tinkler’s side to a second-place finish in the DStv Premiership with 33 appearances to his name in all competitions last sea-son and had established himself as Bafana Bafana’s first-choice left back before a knee injury cut his season short.
As reported by Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs had also made an approach for the player’s services, although they were put off by his price tag and opted to hold out and land him on a free transfer in June next year, but were eventually beaten to his signature by Sundowns.
Mashego, 24, will have his work cut out for him upon his arrival at the Tshwane gi-ants with stern competition for the left back slots at Chloorkop. Lyle Lakay, Aubrey Modiba and Sifiso Ngobeni are all possible options for the Brazilians and will un-doubtedly push Mashego to the limit for a spot in the starting XI.
Mashego made a late return from his injury towards the end of last season, and has already featured in three of City’s matches in the current cam
paign.
