Reservations on Bafana’s CHAN elimination!

-

Questions have been raised on whether the Bafana Bafana players gave it their all in the CHAN qualifying defeat against Angola in Luanda and Dobsonville following a humiliating 6-1 aggregate loss, which resulted in elimination.

According to Siya sources, Bafana Bafana players were visibly upset by a SAFA official and did not take kindly to the manner in which he addressed them prior to the departure to Luanda for the first leg match.

“The official allegedly told the players in no uncertain terms that there is no money in the CHAN tournament. He allegedly told the players that there would neither be any appearance fee nor incentive bonuses for the matches.

“The official further told the players that those that did not like the arrangement should pack their bags and go!” explained a Siya source.

Soccer Laduma has gathered information that there is a player that withdrew from the squad the following day.

However, when approached for comment, team manager Vincent Tseka explained that he was approached by the coach, who informed him that players were enquiring from him about bonuses and he did not have an answer.

“I explained to the players that there are only daily allowances in the CHAN tournament, just as it is the case in the COSAFA tournament,” said Tseka. “However, whatever they win in the tournament, they would share equally among themselves.

“I could not lie to them and promise them bonuses or appearance fees when there is none available. Although the players and management held another meeting pertaining to this issue of bonuses, eventually they accepted the explanation.”
