Khunyedi attracts Scotland interest
Word reaching the Siya crew is that Stellenbosch FC could soon lose one of their young midfielders, in Solly Khunyedi, to an overseas club.
But the deal isn’t imminent as far as the information filtering through from sources at the club is concerned – there has been an enquiry from Scotland about the former Bidvest Wits academy player.
Khunyedi joined the side from the Winelands two years ago when the Clever Boys made the shock decision to have the club’s status sold and the Johannesburg-based outfit relocated to Limpopo and renamed Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
He had just turned 20 and formed part of a Stellies side that is fast establishing it-self as an environment to nurture young talent, as evidenced by the success of their DStv Diski Challenge team and striker Ashley Du Preez moving to Kaizer Chiefs at the start of the campaign.
Soccer Laduma has been led to believe that there is some interest in Khunyedi from Scotland, but any talks are informal at the moment.
The side led by coach Steve Barker aren’t likely to get in the player’s way, should there be a genuine offer in the coming months. However, the deal is not expected to go through this season as Khunyedi is still being monitored.
The attacking midfielder has only featured in two matches so far this season and is working to claim his regular spot in a team made up of a lot of players around the same age or even younger that Barker is building a team with.
