CHANGE OF GUARD IN THE PSL?
It is a topic that is avoided like the plague, but the Siya crew has picked on information that the League has secretly identified three candidates to be groomed for the chairmanship of the PSL, for the day the incumbent decides to step down.
This publication has been informed that SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews, Golden Arrows chairperson and current PSL acting CEO Mato Madlala as well as Cape Town City chairman John Comitis are the trio that could be groomed by chairman Dr Irvin Khoza to take over from him.
Khoza, who, together with Kaizer Motaung, pioneered the phenomenal growth of South African football with the establishment of the Premiership back in 1996, was re-elected in 2020 unopposed for a fourth term.
Through their stewardship, they turned the PSL into a multi-million-rand industry and the most commercially successful league across the continent.
The PSL has become a benchmark for many administrators who flock daily to Mzansi seeking their counsel on how they can also implement similar structures to their domestic leagues and partners with a huge television brand like SuperSport.
Khoza has unselfishly dispensed of his knowledge because his vision is to see Africa regaining its position as a super power, with the domestic league packaged in an attractive package that would attract corporate partners.
