Swallows’ compounding troubles in the spotlight

-

Three years ago, a new dawn happened in Mzansi as ambitious and goal-driven administrators Panyaza Lesufi (Gauteng MEC for Education) and David Mogashoa entered the local football spectrum to revive the legacy of one of the country’s oldest clubs, Moroka Swallows. The MEC, who has since resigned from his position at the club, and Mogashoa entered into the football fraternity with good intentions following the collapse of the club under its previous management, and they were celebrated for their efforts. But after winning promotion to the topflight in 2020, the club faced a number of challenges, including the much-publicised contractual disputes and non-payment of salaries. The off-field issues also affected the results as the team fought against relegation last season, and with the latest reports regarding the FIFA ban, the Dube Birds’ future has once again been questioned.
