Summary: Zwane needs some tweaks
If we look at the health of the frontline for Chiefs going into some massive fixtures in October, including two legs of the MTN8 cup semi-final and a Soweto Derby, there is still work to be done. Dolly has to get his groove back during the upcoming FIFA break and a lot of that is down to Zwane returning him to a right winger role. Considering the strong performances of the front three against SuperSport, it could be the same trio against AmaZulu FC on 2 October at FNB Stadium. Even if Billiat overcomes his knee problem, the head coach may go with Du Preez, Sekgota and Bimenyimana once again.
That would leave Dolly, Billiat and the somewhat forgotten man, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, to be gamechangers from the bench.
Longer-term, Dolly and Billiat are certain starters when fully fit and playing well. The best frontline may be Dolly down the right, Du Preez as the number nine and Billiat down the left. It will also be interesting to see how Billiat dovetails with Bimenyimana, having enjoyed playing off Castro’s back-to-goal work. Dolly may also enjoy having the big Burundian striker to aim for from in-swinging crosses.
Chiefs are very much a work in progress, playing “in patches” as
10111 loves to say, but the coach has to utilise the profiles of his front players more effectively. Du Preez can’t be deep or playing between the lines. Sekgota can’t be anywhere except on the touchline taking on fullbacks like an oldschool winger. Dolly needs space and doesn’t thrive as a number 10 with men closing him down from all sides. Billiat is best on the counterattack and with licence to play down the middle at times, whilst Bimenyimana is still being figured out. The fact that he had four shots,
two with his left, one with his right and one with his head suggests that he will be a handful this season and create space for those around him. All said and done, Dolly and Billiat need to improve or else…
