SUPERSPORT WAITING ON SHILONGO PERMIT

-

SuperSport United are waiting for the final documentation before they can announce the signing of Benson Shilongo.

Matsatsantsa completed the signing of the former Platinum Stars striker before the close of the transfer window, but have been waiting for the work permit of the 30-year-old.

SuperSport have not really gone into the market to bring in new players in the last couple of seasons, but they have backed Gavin Hunt in the market, bringing in the likes of Thulani Hlatshwayo, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Ricardo Goss, Grant Margeman, Thabang Sibanyoni and Patrick Maswanganyi. And Shilongo will soon be eligible to make his debut for the club.

The Siya crew got in touch with SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews, who gave an update on the striker.

“Yes, we have signed him, pending a work permit. So, it’s not final yet,” Matthews said.

Shilongo has signed a contract until 2024.

The Namibian international has gained valuable experience playing in Egypt for the likes of Pyramids, Smouha and Ismaily. Hunt will be banking on him to inspire Matsatsantsa to a good finish in the DStv Premiership this season.

SuperSport are expected to make an announcement on the signing in the coming days.

The club, meanwhile, seem reluctant on acquiring the services of former Orlando Pirates man Wayde Jooste.

Another player the club is unsure on is Sibusiso Khumalo, who has been training with them in recent weeks.
