Chiefs let Usuthu off the hook
Kaizer Chiefs 1 – 1 AmaZulu FC: MTN8 1st leg semi-final, 2 October, FNB Stadium
Considering how Kaizer Chiefs have started the season, at one stage lying among the bottom sides in the DStv Premiership standings, the general consensus even among their supporters was that anything could happen in this game. More so because the two sides played to a draw in the league not too long ago. Being the home side, not that they are ever really the away side considering the support the Soweto giants enjoy everywhere around South Africa they play, Arthur Zwane’s men had to take the game to Usuthu and ensure they go into the second leg with a comfortable advantage. However, Gabadinho
Mhango did not get the memo as he opened the scoring in the 14th minute, following a sublime through pass from George Maluleka, thus giving Chiefs’ chances of progressing to the final a bit of a dent. The Naturena-based side did pull a goal back in the second half, however, after AmaZulu FC went a man down following Veluyeke Zulu’s red card. It was expected the home side would go for the jugular after that, but 1-1 is how it all ended and ‘believe you me’ there’s gonna be blood, sweat and tears at Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 23.
