Pirates to re-visit Mothwa interest?

-

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Orlando Pirates’ interest in goalkeeper Veli Mothwa hasn’t completely vanished.

In fact, Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that the Buccaneers made a late enquiry on transfer deadline day in an attempt to determine whether AmaZulu FC would be willing to part company with their first-choice keeper on September 22.

Pirates were scouring the market for a goal minder in the final hours of the registration window having been linked to Mothwa for much of the off-season, as well as Namibian shot stopper Lloyd Kazapua.

But in the end, the Soweto giants signed Chippa United secondchoice keeper Sipho Chaine, who made the matchday squad at the weekend in the goalless DStv Premiership draw against Richards Bay FC as deputy to Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Chaine was a last-minute transfer, and Siya sources have informed the crew that Mothwa had been their target… but Usuthu did not budge.

Mothwa recently put pen to paper on a long-term contract, as reported by Soccer Laduma, and Pirates were going to have to make an enticing offer for AmaZulu to agree to allow one of their prized assets to leave on deadline day.

It now remains to be seen whether the Buccaneers will try again at the end of the season, given that they will have ample time to negotiate with Usuthu for the services of the Bafana Bafana international.

Another factor is Ofori’s inconsistent performances, and the Siya crew has in the past reported that the Ghana national team player is fast losing the confidence of the club hierarchy with his elementary mistakes.
