GALLANTS TO SWITCH ATTENTION TO KERR MATTER
After they were ordered to pay over R600 000 to former midfielder Ovella Ochieng, who had taken his former club Marumo Gallants to FIFA over a contractual dispute, the Limpopo-based side will now switch their focus to their unresolved issue with former coach Dylan Kerr, the Siya crew has gathered.
Gallants were sanctioned to fork out by world football governing body FIFA, after their unfair dismissal of Ochieng. The 22-yearold had been with the club since August 2021 and was released in January this year after the club failed to register the player with the League.
FIFA decided based on evidence that Gallants unfairly disposed of the player and the club were ordered to pay what is due to him – something which they subsequently did, according to wellplaced sources.
Now, the club will switch their focus to their outstanding matter with Kerr.
The 55-year-old coach led Gallants to Nedbank Cup glory in the 2020/21 season, which was accompanied by the promise of bonuses as part of the coach’s contract with Gallants.
According to Siya sources, the agreed fee was understood to be north of R600 000 for winning the prestigious tournament, although the crew has been reliably informed that Gallants are yet to pay the coach his outstanding money two seasons later.
As things stand, they are still paying Gustavo Paez part of the R3 million settlement ordered by FIFA after failing to register the former Kaizer Chiefs striker despite having agreed to a contract with the forward whilst under TTM. They’ve since had to pay Ovella and will now be looking to settle matters with Kerr to avoid a third run-in with FIFA.
