MKHWANAZI TO DECIDE ON HIS FUTURE
Veteran defender Buhle Mkhwanazi is understood to be weighing up his options on his immediate future, the Siya crew has been informed.
It has been four months since the 32-year-old was released from his short-term deal with SuperSport United upon its expiry in June.
The defender had joined Matsatsantsa after a year of inactivity, following his legal dispute with Bidvest Wits after the club were sold to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (now Marumo Gallants), with the Limpopo outfit understood to be owing Mkhwanazi over R3 million – a case which is yet to be resolved.
The former Bafana Bafana international slotted in quickly under then coach Kaitano Tembo, making eight appearances for the Tshwane outfit in the 2021/22 season.
However, the problem crept in with MultiChoice’s policy of all employees having to undergo mandatory vaccination for COVID-19, where the defender was understood to be reluctant to get jabbed, despite efforts from the club to persuade him to do so, which ultimately led to his exit.
Now, Soccer Laduma has been informed that Mkhwanazi is set to decide on his future.
One of his options would be to call it a day on his career and focus on his business ventures, one of which is a sports therapy supplies company. The other option for Mkhwanazi is to continue his search for a club, which might prove difficult in the current climate, given his prolonged inactivity and stance on getting jabbed.
Mkhwanazi has made over 250 topflight appearances with the University of Pretoria, Mamelodi Sundowns, Wits and SuperSport since his breakthrough in the 2010/11 season.
